As Christians, and as a Catholic Parish, this is why we come together in faith: just as He spoke to His apostles two thousand years ago, Jesus speaks to us today: “Do this in remembrance of me.” “Come follow me.” If we genuinely want to live out our faith, whatever we do, our thoughts, our actions and our words should always be centered in Christ. Yes, easier said than done! But that is why we pray, why we have sacraments, and a community of like-believers so we can all be pilgrims of faith on the journey together, supporting one another.

•As many people come together this week for the Parish Rummage Sale, try to remember that is it not just about clearing out stuff or finding good deals. We are also doing the work of Christ, in meeting the needs of others in ways that they might not otherwise be able to do so. We are also being good stewards of God’s creation by re-using and recycling.

•We also pray for our parish missionaries who are preparing to continue the work of Christ in Peru from June 27—July 5. God be with you!

In today’s Gospel with the feeding of the five thousand, Jesus was aware of the impossibility of the physical situation, just as much as everyone else. But that did not deter Him. He used this scenario to help people see through a different lens that all things are possible if they followed him. But He was concerned with filling their spiritual hunger. “They all ate and were satisfied.” The abundance of food underscored the concrete reality of the miracle for the hungry crowd, and for us today. May the Body and Blood of Christ be our strength, our nourishment, and our hope. Amen.
